Back in the Land of Lobstah

Hey, everybody! Well, as you all know by my emails by now (this blog entry being named after one of them), I'm back in Bar Harbor once again. As my promised Yahoo photo album may be a while in coming -- due to the huge amount of photos to tweak -- I thought I'd give you a quick peek at the remainder of the trip. Here we go.

On the road again out of Branford CT on the final day, and we're in rain. The rain will continue in varying amounts for the entire rest of the day, so get used to it. I did.

And no road trip of mine would be complete without a bridge shot or two, would it? In this case, this particular bridge -- the Pistacaqua River Bridge -- marks the Maine State Line, so of course we had to include it. Sit back and enjoy the ride, folks, as it's only four more hours from here.

And, as promised, here is a shot of the official Maine State Line -- or at least the sign. There never is an actual line like you see on a map, is there? You miss the sign and you're over the line, and you'd never even know it.

Uh-oh! Yet another bridge ahead, this time the brand-spankin'-new Verona Narrows cable-stayed bridge spanning the Penobscot River outside of Bucksport. The old iron suspension bridge I love so much is still there, but it's only a matter of time before it'll be gone, I'm afraid. The new one is pretty cool-looking, but I do so love those old bridges.

And we all knew this was coming, didn't we? You see, these new cable-stayed bridge shots just don't have the geometric appeal as the suspension bridges or truss bridges do. Yet another photographic challenge thrown in my face.

Island, ho! And here we are about to cross onto Mount Desert Island, home of Acadia National Park. I had the timing down just right to avoid the wiper, but we hit a bump just as I was going to shoot and my finger fired off the shutter accidentally. Oh, well. Such are grab shots out the windshield on a rainy day.

And, BINGO! Pulling into Headquarters to say Howdy to all and to grab the key to my cozy little apartment in Bar Harbor. Such a familiar sight this is, after all this time.

Home again, home again . . . Pepe sitting in front of my apartment taking a much-deserved rest after yet another 3000-mile cross-country jaunt. Such a little trouper! That's my apartment just off Pepe's tailgate, the one with the sling chair in front of it.

The next day dawned clear and sunny, so I took Pepe for a little look-see down to the Bar Harbor pier after checking in at the Post Office and grabbing my mail. I mean, what good does it do to be in Bar Harbor if you don't actually go down a have a look at it, right? Had to be done, as is the Ramblin' Man Tour itself now. I hope you enjoyed the ride.
